Slow Dudes was recorded from February to June 2005 utilizing commercial software, primitive electronic instruments built by me, and some analog synthesizers and brains built by Peter Blasser. The software (general MIDI programs such as Easybeat) provides a familiar architectural ingredient, while the homemade instruments are highly gestural in order to battle the defaults present in the software. Information on the instruments I built for Slow Dudes can be found here.
To make Slow Dudes I got rid of everything I owned except for the following objects:

I carried these objects with me around Berlin in three small bags. Each month I moved to a different sublet apartment and worked on about one or two songs a month. Sometimes I used objects that I found in strangers' rooms as sound sources. I thought a lot about America, about the funneling of genres, deadpan humor, the failures of MIDI, and about memories from college.
I do not retain any copyright to this music. I would rather share what I have made with more people in the most direct way possible.
Thanks to Ethan Hayes-Chute who did the cover art for Slow Dudes. Also thanks to Ryan M. who helped me survive my time in Berlin while working on this.
I am working on another free web album now. I hope it will be much better!
